Recently, we acquired SheetMusicNow.com, adding over 32,000 titles to our already-extensive selection. SheetMusicNow’s catalog offers the world’s largest selection of classical and jazz sheet music from the world’s best artists and publishers including Chick Corea, Sir James Galway, Joe Lovano, Steven Isserlis, Oxford University Press, Schott, Universal Edition and many more. You can view the press release announcing the acquisition by clicking here.

We are currently building a new and improved digital music store, www.FreeHandMusic.com, that will combine our current catalog with SheetMusicNow’s catalog and add new features and improvements throughout the site. Check back with us for more details about our new store in the coming months.

Digital Sheet Music Frequently Asked Questions

Q) How do I buy a score on the FreeHandMusic website?
A) Go to www.freehandmusic.com, search for and purchase music.

Once the music is purchased, download it using the MusicPad Manager on your PC or Macintosh. You can verify that your scores are available for downloading by clicking on “My Account” and then clicking “My Purchase History.”

Q) How do I download a score purchased on the FreeHandMusic website?
A) To download, start the MusicPad Manager and then select the Tools menu or icon. Click on menu item labeled “Purchased Music List” and enter your FreeHandMusic account ID and password in the “Security Check” dialog. Select one of the three choices (“All purchased files,” “Previously downloaded files” or “Purchased undownloaded files”) and view the list of scores you have purchased. The right-most column indicates whether a score was previously downloaded.

Select a score that has not been downloaded and click on the “Download” or “Download as Bitmap” button. When the download is complete, click the “Done” button to dismiss the Purchased Music List dialog. To find and open your downloaded song, choose Browse Collection from the File menu. To copy your downloaded song to the MusicPad Pro, choose File Manager from the Tools menu.

Important Note: “Download” and “Download as Bitmap”
These two options are designed to accommodate the unique needs of MusicPad users. Selecting “Download” allows for full use of the digital sheet music file including MIDI playback and transposition. “Download as Bitmap” is for use by those musicians who prefer the fastest page-turning performance and do not plan to utilize MIDI samples or transposition for the selected score. If you would like to have both file types available, you may download both. Just download it once using the “Download” button and again using “Download as Bitmap.”

Q) Where do my downloaded scores go?
A) The scores are placed into your “Home Folder.” You can set your “Home Folder” by clicking on the Tools menu or icon in the MusicPad Manager and then clicking on the “MusicPad Manager Options…” entry.

Important Note: Changing your “Home Folder”
There is an encrypted database that is placed in your Home Folder by the download code. This database contains detailed information about the scores you have purchased. If you change your Home Folder, it is important that you move the database file to your new Home Folder. If you fail to move the database, the software will no longer be able to decrypt and display your scores. The name of the database file is <your account>.ldb. To move it, open Windows Explorer on your Windows PC or the Finder on your Mac and navigate to your old Home Folder. Select the database file and click on “Edit->Cut.” Navigate in Windows Explorer or the Finder to your new Home Folder and click on “Edit->Paste.”

Q) How do I see a purchased score on my MusicPad Pro?
A) Start the MusicPad Manager on your PC or Mac. Make sure that you have set up the MusicPad Manager to connect to your MusicPad Pro (via the USB connection or an Ethernet connection). Select the Tools menu or icon. Click on “File Manager.” This will open a dual pane window. Now, select a purchased score and click on the down arrow to move it to the MusicPad Pro. You should now be able to view all the pages of the score on your MusicPad Pro.

Q) Can I copy the purchased score onto multiple MusicPad Pros?
A) Not unless you purchased more than one copy of the score. Once you have copied your score to a MusicPad Pro, you have used up one print right for your purchase. To find out how many print rights you have left, go to the FreeHandMusic website and select “My Downloads.” The column entitled “Prints Remain” indicates the number of print rights you have left. To copy the score to a different MusicPad Pro, you will have to purchase another copy of the score.

Q) My MusicPad Pro is running out of space but, I don’t want to lose my access to the purchased scores I’ve copied onto it. What do I do?
A) You can delete the score from your pad and copy it back to the pad any time you want. The internal database of the pad will maintain the information necessary to decrypt the score. In fact, you can put the score onto a USB memory card and connect that to the MusicPad Pro and you will still be able to see it on the pad that you originally copied it to. However, if you put the USB memory card into a different MusicPad Pro that you didn’t copy the file to using the File Manager, every page after the first will be un-viewable.

Q) I want to move my purchased score from one MusicPad Pro to another. Can I do that?
A) Not currently. You will have to purchase another copy. This feature will be available in the future release of the software.

Q) I used to be able to view my scores on my computer using MusicPad Manager but, now the files show up as "Encrypted." What happened?
A) You probably changed your Home Folder without moving the associated database. Please see the Important Note in the question “Where do my downloaded scores go?” and follow the instructions to restore your database. If this does not fix the problem, please get in touch with our support department at http://www.freehandmusic.com/Feedback.aspx or via telephone at 1-800-917-1949.
