FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FreeHand Systems announces release of its 4.0 software, the company’s most significant software advancement since the release of the MusicPad Pro® Plus.

New software release expands tools for performers and music educators, making the MusicPad Pro Plus the must have device for 21st century musicians.

LOS ALTOS, Calif. – January 20, 2005 – FreeHand Systems, Inc., the world leader in digital sheet music publishing and the developer, manufacturer and marketer of the world’s first digital music tablet, the MusicPad Pro® Plus, announced today the release of its 4.0 software—the most significant software update since the product was released to musicians in 2003.

The new 4.0 software, being demoed in a beta version at NAMM in Anaheim this week represents a dramatic leap forward in the software and features of the MusicPad Pro Plus. It will be released to existing customers as an upgrade and included with new MusicPad Pros starting in the spring of 2005.

“FreeHand Systems is on a mission to deliver digital sheet music of every genre to music educators and performing musicians around the world,” said Kim Lorz, CEO of FreeHand Systems. “The release of this new feature-rich, performance-driven, software update for our flagship product, the MusicPad Pro Plus, moves us forward exponentially in our quest to marry digital sheet music with our digital music tablet, providing musicians an ever improving tool for 21st century music education and performance.”.

The new features of FreeHand’s Music Manager 4.0 software include:

  • Metronome
  • Pitch Pipe
  • Audio player for MIDI and MP3
  • Wireless networking
  • Compatibility with Solero files from sunhawk.com allowing transposition and 'bouncing ball' MIDI playback
  • New finger friendly user interface with increased pen colors and notation
  • Text annotation
  • File browser and quick search
  • Expanded play list capability
  • Two-page display in landscape mode
  • Improved tool palette and icons

FreeHand Systems, a privately held Silicon Valley company with the goal of reinventing music for musicians worldwide, has created the MusicPad Pro Plus, a revolutionary electronic device that changes the way musicians compose, arrange and perform their art.

The MusicPad Pro Plus fits neatly on a music stand, solving the age-old problem of turning music pages by letting musicians simply touch the screen. It also creates a paperless environment by providing storage capacity for an entire music library of more than 5,000 pages of sheet music. Plus, with FreeHand’s digital music store, www.sunhawk.com, musicians everywhere can download over 35,000 scores already formatted for easy transfer to their MusicPad Pro.

The MusicPad Pro Plus digital sheet music tablet is housed in a charcoal grey ABS polymer enclosure not much larger than a sheet of paper. Weighing just over four pounds, it is lightweight, easy to carry and comes with a built-in rechargeable battery. It has an easy-to-read, low glare, backlit 12.1-inch TFT LCD display. Key features include zoom in and zoom out capabilities and on-screen color highlighters and pens to add or erase rehearsal marks and notations. Digital music files in PDF, jpg and other popular graphics formats can be directly imported into the MusicPad Pro using the Music Manager software provided with the device. Printed music can be scanned into a computer and then imported.

Pricing & Availability
The MusicPad Pro Plus is available for purchase on FreeHand System’s website (www.freehandsystems.com) and through FreeHand Authorized Resellers around the world for a suggested retail price of $1,199.
